The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) is now accepting registrations for the Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative, a one-time, time-limited pathway to permanent residence. Up to 250 candidates will be nominated, with the first invitations expected in the coming weeks. Registration closes on August 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
Important: this is a narrowly targeted initiative. It is not a broad healthcare or clinical-worker pathway. It is designed to retain non-clinical support staff — cleaning and security workers — already employed by a B.C. health authority in a rural or remote community. Read the eligibility carefully before registering.

Who Is Eligible
This initiative targets workers in two specific support occupations who are already employed by one of B.C.’s public health authorities in a rural or remote community:
| NOC code | Occupation group |
| NOC 65312 | Janitors, caretakers, and heavy-duty cleaners |
| NOC 64410 | Security guards and related security service occupations |
Core eligibility conditions reported include:
- A regular, indeterminate (permanent), full-time job with a participating B.C. health authority
- Direct employment by the health authority — contractor/third-party employees are not eligible
- At least nine months of continuous full-time experience with the same health authority before registration
- Health-authority support: an authorized representative must confirm support for your BC PNP application
- The standard BC PNP Skills Immigration requirements (language, work experience, intent to reside in B.C.)
Who Does Not Qualify
- Clinical or general healthcare workers — this initiative is limited to the two support occupations above
- Contractor or third-party agency employees (only direct health-authority employees qualify)
- Workers whose job location is in excluded regions, including Metro Vancouver, the Central Okanagan, and most of the Capital Regional District (with specific Gulf Island exceptions such as Galiano, Mayne, Pender, Salt Spring, and Saturna)
- Experience gained while on a study permit, or co-op/study-program work, toward the nine-month requirement
- Periods of leave longer than two weeks, which do not count as qualifying employment
Freshness flag: excluded regions, eligible health authorities, and detailed criteria are defined in the current Skills Immigration Program Guide and can change. Confirm the latest edition on welcomebc.ca before registering or advising.
How the Process Works
- Register through the BC PNP Skills Immigration EOI system before the August 31, 2026 deadline.
- If invited, submit a full application; applications are assessed against the criteria in effect at the time of submission.
- If nominated, apply to IRCC for permanent residence as a provincial nominee (a nomination does not automatically grant PR).
Because this is a base (non-Express Entry) nomination, it does not carry the enhanced federal Express Entry processing pathway. For how base vs. enhanced nominations differ, see our PNP eligibility criteria page.
Why This Initiative Matters
The initiative sits within the BC PNP’s broader “Care” objective under its 2026 program refocus. It recognizes that rural and remote health facilities depend on support staff — not only clinicians — to stay operational. With a hard cap of 250 nominations and a window of roughly ten weeks, eligible workers should prepare documentation now rather than wait.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the BC PNP Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative for nurses and doctors?
No. Despite the name, it is not a clinical pathway. It targets non-clinical support staff — cleaners (NOC 65312) and security guards (NOC 64410) — already employed by a B.C. health authority in a rural or remote community.
How many nominations are available and when does it close?
Up to 250 nominations. Registration opened June 15, 2026 and closes August 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. through the BC PNP Skills Immigration EOI system.
Do I need my employer’s support?
Yes. Health-authority support is mandatory. An authorized representative of the relevant health authority must confirm support for your application, and each health authority sets its own internal selection process.
Does this initiative use Express Entry?
No. It is a base BC PNP nomination, so it does not add the 600 CRS points of an Express Entry-aligned nomination. Nominees apply to IRCC for PR through the provincial nomination process.
What work experience counts toward the nine-month requirement?
Continuous full-time experience with the same health authority. Experience gained on a study permit or through co-op/study programs does not count, and leave longer than two weeks is excluded.
